RENAISSANCE - SATOSHI TOMIIE

Satoshi Tomie has delivered yet another progressive masterpiece with his new triple CD, Renaissance. The three Cd's vary considerable from one another in terms of genre, which is a welcome change in a market where multiple CD packs sound so similar , they could all be on the one CD.Disc one is heartfelt club mix, rich and thick. The mix is very high spirited, uplifting in it's tone and electro house-ish in it's nature. These are thick sounds which maintain a nice consistency. There are no curve balls thrown here and that is what makes it such a great cut. Check out ' I love your shoes' Cass and Managan, brilliant.Disc two is a skillfully crafted selection of the D.Js remixes of various tracks all mixed together. There is a nice tribal element here , a slow brewing bass and overall a finely layered sequence of tracks. There is a slightly darker element to this CD compared to Tomie's other work, but it plays out in a generously funky fashion. Which brings us to Disc three, our personal favorite is a very nice collection of Tomie's home favorites. These tracks are riddled with soul and funk. You'll find Miles Davis and James Brown gracing the disc with some great cuts. The selection is varied and works wonderfully when listened to from woe to go without any interruptions. It's a nice change from disc one and two, when you want to change gears for your ears. Overall an amazingly brilliant album.
